The parrot had seen a lot. More than most parrots, more even than most humans. Yet it kept its own counsel and never betrayed anyone’s secrets. Sometimes it unfurled its wings as if throwing off the weight of so many secrets and sought out the mistress, who was always gentle and ready
with a treat.
